Casimiro de Abreu ((:ˌkaziˈmiɾu dʒi.aˈbɾeu̯)) (formerly known as Barra de São João (:ˈbaxɐ dʒiˈ sɐ̃w ʒuɐ̃w)) is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. Its population was 26,243 (2005) and its area is 461 km².〔IBGE - ()〕 The city was called Indaiaçu up to be rebaptized in 1925 to homage the homonymous poet, who was born in their coastal district Barra de São João. ==References==
